Our EX-Student _ Aditi Verma

Aditi Verma with Down’s Syndrome, was admitted in our school at the age of 11years. She was admitted in Primary class I.

The main aim of our school is to train children to become a useful citizen and to be independent as much as possible. In a normal school, more stress is give to academic education to be able to follow a profession of their choice. But in a special school, training is imparted as per their ability.

Many of our students have shown vast improvement, and during our twenty seven years in service in educating special children, many of our students have shown remarkable progress.

One such student who we are very proud today is Aditi Verma.
Aditi was sent to a specialschool in Jaipur where the family stayed till 2001, to another one in Pune till2005 and finally to Swami Brahmanand Pratishthan, Belapur. Maths was herfavourite subject, and she won the ‘Best Student Award’ in 2010 for her overallperformance. Besides academics, Aditi loved dancing and dramatics, and in aninter-school competition in 2012, won the ‘Best Actress Award’

Her training in our school included amongst other things, various skills for independent living. She learnt to read and write functional mathematics, She participated in many extra-curriculam activities like dramatics, dance, drawing and won many prizes in our school. Training is mainly given to impart self confidence.

At the age of 18, she was transferred to vocational unit, where she learnt home-science activities like baking, cooking, chopping and other culinary skills.

Seeing the potential in her, she moved away from school at the age of 20, to help in her father’s business, but she was more interested in cooking. Her parents supported her and started a small cafeteria at Bhoomi mall at CBD.
Aditi was a part of afeatured video series, #BossWomen and shared her journey into the hotelbusiness. While we all see people pitying those with Down Syndrome and treatingthem differently, Aditi has made sure that she is respected and loved for whoshe is and what she has become, rising above the layer of pity.
We, at Swami Brahmanand Pratishthan, are very proud of her achievements and it restores our faith and confidence in our educational system used by our staff and professionals. This is also a good inspiration for parents and teachers, to support their children, normal and special, and let them bloom.
