Sports for Persons with Disabilities
Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports under Govt of India has launched the Scheme of Sports and Games for Persons with Disabilities.
Special Olympics Bharat (SOB) has been designated as Nodal Agency for conducting training of Community Coaches and for conducting of sports competitions at District/UT levels.
Swami Brahmanand Pratishthan was given the responsibility of conducting the District Games on the 1st and 2nd February 2012 at Bharat Ratna Late Rajeev Gandhi Krida Sankul at sector 3A, CBD, Navi Mumbai.
The events included athletics, aquatics, Badminton, Table Tennis, Bocche, Kho Kho and Foot ball. The coaching camp for 50 coaches was conducted on the 27th Jan. 2012 from 8.00 am-5.00pm at Swami Brahmanand Pratishthan, CBD.
300 athletes with different disabilities from Raigad and Navi Mumbai participated in the event.
Sri. L.B.Mahajan the Regional Deputy Commissioner Social Welfare, Mumbai, was the Chief Guest for the Opening ceremony on the 1st February and declared the games open. The athletes Marched ahead and the International , National Gold medalists Sujit Phadnis, Disha Maru, Pratik Tayde lit the olympic torch with the chief guest.

During the closing ceremony Medals were awarded to the winners and a cultural performance was put up by the students of SBP. Participants with visual Impairment also displayed a game of kabaddi.
On the 2nd Feb, in the Closing ceremony Mr. Revappa Gurav the District Sports Officer declared the games closed.
