I am greatly honored to present the 17th Annual Report of our organization.
The institution set out on its journey on the 7th July 1990 at Sahabaz in Belapur Village, was initiated with 3 students in the temporary premises provided by the Gram Panchayat of Sahabaz, Belapur.
Today we feel proud to say that we have our own school Building, a well equipped and established institution for our special children and adults and one more centre at Uran where we have 20 students.
The academic year began on the 11th June 07 with 96 students. 10 new students were admitted in the school.
We only have a staff of 31 (trained and untrained) persons for 126 students at both CBD and Uran centers, and there is a long waiting list seeking admission for the coming academic year.
The students of the CBD center are grouped into 9 different levels and trained by professionals registered with Rehabilitation Council of India. The groups are as follows.

Our Academic Year began auspiciously by celebrating Swamiji’s Punyathithi on 20th of June. A small pooja was conducted and lunch was provided to all the students, parents, staff and friends who were present.
We marked the beginning of this year by Inaugurating our vocational Project “Grow Green”, on 20th of June, a project that was partially funded by The Rotary Club of New Bombay Hillside under the leadership of Dr. Surekha Patil and by students of IBYS, Spain , to train the students of the Vocational section in planting and growing herbal and useful plants.
“Retail Outlet” a project initiated by Ms. Pushpa Moorjani to display articles made by the students of the Vocational section of the school was also inaugurated on the same day by Ms. Pushpa Moorjani and Mr. Anand Karya.
Like every year after a functional assessment of the various areas such as Activities of Daily Living, Social Skills, Functional academics, community orientation etc, an IEP was prepared by the teachers, Mrs. Aditi Kadam

3rd December Sports of Thane Jilla Parishad at Dombivli – 22 students participated winning 4 students – Mst. Vipul Rane, Mst. Prathmesh Koli, Ms. Shruti Tyagi, Ms. Disha Maru won gold medals in the swimming event.
15th 16th December ,Special Olympics at Navy Nagar – 23 participated, winning 3-gold, 5- silver, 5- bronze medals.
Cycling Race at Nerul Gymkhana at 8 am – Sarvesh, Prathmesh & Ankit Verma- won 1st, 2nd, 3rd prize respectively.
14th Feb cricket match organized by AWMH at Goregaon sports club Mst.Ganesh won prize for Best Bowler and Mst. Rohit Pervi for Best Batsman both winning a cash prize of Rs. 500 each.
6th-8th March participated in State sports meet at Lathur – Mst. Vipul Rane and Prathmesh accompanied by Mr. Sarang Rathod attended the meet and both won 2nd Prize Prize in the swimming event.
CULTURAL
6th January program by students – Jeevan Vigyan Samaroh 2008 organised by Preksah Dhyan Committee- 10 students participated and performed a Skit.

25th Feb drama competition –District Level organized by Natyashala at Thane Ghadkari Hall.” Kalale sare kalale”- 11 participated – and won 2nd Prize. They were also selected for final competition.
15th March Final State Level Competition of Natyashala at Khar. Ms. Aditi Verma and Mst. Yashodhar Bobade won Best actor awards. Mrs. Vidya Avasak won the third Prize for Best Script and Direction. Our Drama won the 2nd Prize.
MEDICAL
19th July Diphtheria and tetanus vaccine administered by Dr. Moralwar
8th August Dental Check up by Mrs. Aradwad mother of Ms. Priya Aradwad a student of our School.
Dental camp by doctors of Dr. D.Y.Patil Dental College, “DOSTI” team under the supervision of Dr. Rupinder Bhatia, Prof. and Head of Pediatric department was organized on the 14th, 19th,and 27th of March. Students were given information about good dental Hygiene through visuals shown on the OHP.
DISABILITY WEEK PROGRAM
To spread awareness among the community regarding disability and special children following programs were organized jointly by NIMH, Swami Brahmanand Parent’s Association and Our School
4th December Rally was organized. A skit was also performed by the entire staff of SBP and performed at prominent spots during the rally.
5th December awareness program - visited by students of Bharati Vidyapeeth, Vishwajyot Kharghar, People’s Education Society , CBD and many other people from the community
7th December ‘Brahmanand 2007’ for special children of Navi Mumbai and Raigad District 600 students, parents, staff and trainees of NIMH, participated in the Funfair. 11 Institutions from Navi Mumbai and Raigad District participated .Fun games were organized by the teachers of the school helped by the trainees of NIMH. A cultural program was also organized simultaneously. Children were provided with snacks, drinks and gifts.
EXHIBITION AND COMPETITION
3rd November Exhibition cum Sale of articles made by the students of the vocational section was inaugurated by Mrs. Suryakanta Grandmother of Mrs. Sharada Chandrasekharan, Principal of Bharati Vidyapeeth English medium school.

30th January, a function to give away the “Adarsh Shikshak Puraskar”, was organized by St. John the Baptist Special School, Rotary Club of Thane Central and Thane Jillah Parishad..
Mrs. Poojary got felicitated, for her contribution in the field of Special Education, by the District Social Welfare Officer, Mr. R.B.Shirsath and the President of Rotary Club of Thana Central, Mr. Uday Vaidya.
In the same function, Mrs. Sukanya Venkataraman also received the “Adarsh Shikshak Puraskar” from District Social Welfare Officer, Mr. R.B.Shirsath and the President of Rotary Club of Thana Central, Mr. Uday Vaidya

NUTRITION PROGRAM
On account of various contributions made by our well wishers for this particular Program the children were given milk and fruits/ biscuits every day. 40 children benefited by this Program.
We thank each and every donor, well wisher, volunteer and all those who have been supporting us in our mission of uplifting the cause of our Special Children.
