New project-Residential home for our children

Once the normal children grow up, they are able to fend for themselves by continuing a regular career and getting on with their lives. But in case of mentally retarded children, it is a different story. They need to be looked after even after they are grown up. This is the biggest worry for the parents, who wonder, how their children will look after themselves when their children grow up. Keeping this in mind it was suggested that there should be some residential home, where they can be given a secure home. Our parent association has decided to establish a residential home for our children that will include residential facilities, sheltered workshops and recreational activities for our children. The special Residential home is the pressing need of the society. “Otherwise what will happen to our kids, when we are no more?” said an emotional KN Sharma, president of SBPPA, reflecting the dilemma faced by the parents of the special kids.

Fund raising program for this project has started. A souvenir was released and a musical show was organized at Dr DY Patil Auditorium in Nerul and performed by mentally challenged students of Vasaibhai Dagra Special school.

Neha opened the show with a moving rendition of ‘Satyam Shivam Sundaram’, there by setting a tone for the rest of the musical items. Kinya, Varsha and Mina performed three-in-one Bharat Natyam, Oddissi and Kathakali dance to the tune ‘Madhuvan mey Radhika’ with grace. Thereafter Milind jumped into the musical fray with romantic song of Rafi. He stunned the audience with his flawless rendition evoking huge applause. Sailesh wearing glittering attire lit the stage, dancing with enthusiasm with his female counterpart to ‘mach gaye shor sari nagri mei.’ Several such items followed during the show.

“The dance performance of Amruta Thakur (our student at Uran Centre) to the tune of ‘Kajra re’ was an enthralling performance” pointed out compere Manish Gurusahahni. Manish, compered the show with free flowing saheri. No one in the audience could make out that he suffers from Mental retardation! “He has verbal excellence and can speak spontaneously” explained Dr Hemlata Dhoot, Principal of VDISMR

Thus, Swami Brahmanand Prathisthan Parent Association is on its fund raising for its yet, anther project and are hopeful to make life meaningful and happy with the support of its sponsors.
