District sports was organised on
the occasion of World Disability Day by the District Social Welfare
Department,Zilla Parishad Thane on 8th December at Mavli Mandal ground, Thane.
The event was presided over by Sri Subhash Gotiram Pawar, Vice President,
Shikshan Samiti, Zilla Parishad Thane and Sri. Vivek Bhimanvar, the CEO
of Thane Zilla Parishad. 520 students with different disabilities from 30
special schools of Thane district participated in the athletic events. Sri.
Yogesh Patil, the District Social Welfare officer of Thane Zilla
effectively carried out the event with the support of the Principals and
staff members of special schools of Thane.
Various events like 400,200,100,50 m
running, soft ball throw, shot put, standing long jump, running long jump were
held for children with hearing impairment and intellectual disabilities. Events
like target throw , ball throw and 25 m walk were carried out for children with
multiple disabilities. Events for the visually impaired and physically
challenged were carried out in their respective schools.
Aquatic events were
organised on 3rd December at Marotrao Shinde Tarantalav. Medals and
certificates were given to the winners and memento’s were given to all
participating schools.
22 students accompanied by 10 staff
members attended the meet.
The Registration for the Schools for ID and Multiple
Disabilities was taken up by our School. Ms. Chhaya Sawant and Ms. Charushila
took up the responsibility. The responsibility of conducting events for
children with multiple disabilities was carried out by the Principal Mrs.
Sukanya Venkataraman along with the Principals of St. John Special school and
Savitribai Special School. Mrs. Bhima Dhandekar and Mr. Sarang Rathod were
involved in carrying out events for the Children with Intellectual
disabilities.
